This Port Moody kitchen renovation reimagines a 1970s West Coast Modern home while remaining true to its original architectural character. Rather than imposing a contemporary aesthetic, the renovation builds on the home’s defining characteristics—vaulted exposed-beam ceilings, natural materials, abundant natural light, and a strong connection to the outdoors.
Warm walnut millwork, creamy whites, brass accents, natural stone, and moss green create a restrained material palette inspired by the surrounding Pacific Northwest landscape. Reimagining the Kitchen
The previous kitchen was inefficient for a busy family who love to cook, bake, and entertain. An oddly shaped island, bulky corner desk, and oversized circulation area consumed valuable floor space. Reconfiguring the layout made room for a tall pantry, 48-inch refrigerator and freezer columns, a 48-inch range, and a more efficient work triangle. Dedicated zones for baking, beverages, and food prep, along with storage for small appliances, trays, and pantry items, keep the kitchen organized and everyday surfaces uncluttered.
A Sculptural Centrepiece
The dining island’s dramatic Vagli Vena quartz surface, luminous with soft gold and grey veining, offers the look of marble with the durability of quartz. Curved outer corners, walnut reeded detailing, and generous integrated storage transform the island into both a sculptural centrepiece and a hardworking gathering place.

Beyond the Kitchen
The renovation extended well beyond the kitchen to include the living room, staircase, laundry room, bathrooms, and bedrooms. White oak flooring now unifies the main level, complemented by a tailored stair runner and wool carpeting upstairs. Together, the updates create a cohesive home that respects its West Coast Modern roots while supporting the needs of modern family life.
